AMP S4E11: One Plus One Equals Zero - Christie Erwin

Christie Erwin headshots.jpg

Apparently this woman knew me as a small child, but unfortunately I don’t remember that. What I do remember, is that she was my first foot in the door to this adoption world.

I was sitting at my desk at work, pregnant and stuff, and ran across a photo on Facebook that she had posted from the Arkansas Heart Gallery of these two little boys available for adoption. That’s all it took. I emailed her, she put me in contact with their adoption specialist, and the rest is history. We didn’t adopt those two boys, but that photo led us to adopt two different boys, and for that I am so grateful.

Let me back up.

Christie Erwin’s deep love for children led her and husband, Jeff, to become foster parents in 1993, for a private, non-profit adoption agency. It was there that the foundation for Christie’s passion and driving concern for children in foster care was laid. After fostering for eleven years with the private agency, the Erwin’s became foster parents for the Arkansas Department of Children and Family Services in 2004. They fostered over fifty children during their twenty years of fostering.

Christie is a 2009 Congressional Coalition on Adoption “Angel in Adoption” award winner and represented Arkansas as the American Mother of the Year in 2016. She was the Chairman of the Pulaski County Adoption Coalition for 4 years as well as co-coordinator of the Pulaski County Heart Gallery and a founding member of The C.A.L.L. (Children of Arkansas Loved for a Lifetime). Christie now serves as the founder and Executive Director of Project Zero (

In this episode, Christie and I were able to chat about her heart for waiting kids, what Project Zero is doing to help, and her book, The Middle Mom! It was so fun to get to interview such a pivotal person in our (and many others’!) adoption journey, and I hope you guys love it too!
